"Riding provides a wonderful source of self-esteem for the students. They are empowered for the first time in their lives and have begun to believe that they are worth something."

Who We Are?

We are a 501(c)(3), non-profit, PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) affiliated center located in Eastern Sussex County. Presently, we are the only PATH-affiliated center in Sussex and Kent Counties. Our PATH-certified therapeutic riding instructors and trained volunteers have provided planned sessions in equine-assisted therapy to children and adults with disabilities since 1988.

The Mission of SDTR...

is to improve the physical and emotional well-being of children and adults in Sussex and Kent Counties living with disabilities through equine assisted therapy and experienced certified instructors, and in doing so,increase the cognitive and social skills, the self-esteem and confidence of our participants.

SDTR's Values

We are dedicated to increasing the number of participants served without compromising the high quality, focused one-on-one therapy sessions that are the heart of the program. In addition to increasing the number of participants served, our own modern and efficient riding center will enable us to expand our therapeutic offerings to populations such as veterans with disabilities, who will benefit from a therapeutic curriculum tailored to their particular needs.
